What is a good rifle for hunting?

roughly in the $200 range i'd like to hunt fesant or maybe deer?

For only $200 your looking at used rifles. You might run across anything. Rifles are great for deer but your shotgun can also take a deer with buckshot or slugs. Pheasant are harvested with the shotgun using bird shot.What is a good rifle for hunting?

for birds the best would be a shotgun, the 12 gauge you and your dad bought. buy #4 pheasant loads for birds like the pheasant. Don' go larger than 2 buckshot loads ,since it will obliterate the bird.





for deer, you won't have much choice. a cheap solution would be a Mosin Nagant rifle. 7.62x54r will take elk if needed. Its reasonably high power and a good rifle for only $60. Bolt action, 5 rd internal magazines, open sights with rear ramp up to 1000 meters, easy to clean, reliable. You can buy cheap soft point ammo for $10 per box of 20.
i would buy a .223, .243, or 270 but i dont think they are around that price range. you dont hunt pheasants with a rifle, but you do with deer. a 12 gauge pump is a great type of shotgun and will kill pretty much anything you want it to kill. it will kill birds,small game like squirrels, larger game like raccoons, big game like coyote, and even deer with buckshot or slugs. it would be a great gun for self defense, but also for hunting. you should check out your local pawn shop and talk to the owner about the guns he has and which one fits your need. good luck picking out a gun and good luck hunting!!!
if you want a great shotgun for practically any situation take a look at the remington 870 express super mag combo. Hunt anything from ducks to black bear. Its not in your price range but its a great deal.
