Interested in hunting, what can i do to become a hunter or to see if i really do like it?

I have never shot a gun, only bb and airsoft and paintball, but not a real gun

I don't really know anybody who hunts, and im 15 years old.

what can i do and what do i need to know? about like guns and bows and crossbows and permits and basically just vague information

and yes in my state i can get a hunting license at 14, in RIInterested in hunting, what can i do to become a hunter or to see if i really do like it?
Hey, I am about the same age as you but have been hunting for about 10 years. Basically, for your first hunt: I suggest starting with this rifle: Remington model 7, caliber: 243. I shot a gun like that for years and years and it never failed to get every deer I shot. Or, since you're not really sure if you like hunting yet, borrow a friend's gun. Just ask your friend about how much the gun ';kicks'; reffering to the amount of recoil. If you get one that will turn your shoulder blue, you'll probably never want to shoot a gun again. Be careful in that respect. Next, go to a place where you think there might be deer. Find a bush, and, (assuming you're wearing camo) sit down in front of the bush. You don't want to sit IN the bush because the bush will shake when you move. Mostly, I just want to tell you do dress warm. There are not very many things that are worse than being cold and miserable on a deer stand. Second, be veeerrryyy still. It will get so irritating just having to sit there, but more than likely, the deer will see you before you see the deer (it happens to me all the time, they are quieter than you think!). Just make slow movements, even when you think it doesn't matter. Use scent cover - the kind you just spray right on your clothes is the easiest. Also, be quiet. If you're going to be hunting with someone (which is not a bad idea - another pair of eyes to help you look for deer) whisper quietly. If you're going to be by yourself, get some walkie-talkies. Leave one with someone you trust and that way, if something happens, if your'e bored, or if you kill a deer, you can call the person on it. Now, no matter where your'e going to be hunting, don't expect to see the whole deer right away. You will need to look for things that do not seem very obvious: Changing shadows/shadows that weren't there before; Things that look different, like a bush that you didn't notice before. That could be your deer! Just scan the brush for deer: an ear, a leg, anything. It's pretty unlikely that you'll see the whole deer at first. Oh, and if a doe sees you moving or catches your scent, here are the signs that she's about to ruin your hunt: Stomps her front foot. Looks away, then looks back quickly (she's trying to catch you moving around). And if she blows (you'll know it if you hear it) your hunt is more than likely over. That is a warning call to deer to stay away from there. But, sometimes deer either don't hear it or don't pay attention to it (in other words, don't leave just because a doe blows at you). Phew, I'm tired of typing. Anyway, if you get a deer in, Aim RIGHT behind the shoulder. I suggest sitting flat on your butt and getting propped up on your knees so you will be steady enough to make a good shot. Now, anyway, about that shot placement. Aim right behind the shoulder, be VERY careful not to aim too far back, because if you shoot a deer in the guts, that can turn into a cold, nasy, all - night - long tracking job. The right behind the shoulder shot will shred the deer's lungs and heart, and the deer will run when you shoot, but not far. Blood trailing: when you shoot, try to remember exactly where the deer was standing. Then, (you need to wait about 30 minutes after you shoot) go to that general area and start looking. I strongly suggest having a flashling with you at all times. Look for hair or splattered blood. Then, go the direction the deer went, looking for blood dropped on the ground, and on bushes. When you find your deer, it is perfectly aight to have an emotional moment. A first deer is something very, very special. Drag the deer out (I always carry a short rope in my pocket. If the deer is a doe, loop the rope around her neck and then pull on the rope. if it is a buck, do the same). Hopefully, you haven't picked a spot too far from where you'll be cleaning the deer. If you need help, call somebody on that walkie talkie :). You should be able to find someone to clean the deer for you, or you can (with a little help) put the deer in the back of a truck and take it to a meat proccessing place. Don't let all this info overwhelm you - the main things are being safe and making a humane kill. I hope you get a deer, and I hope you have lots and lots and lots of fun. I started out the same way you did, by the way. Stay safe!Interested in hunting, what can i do to become a hunter or to see if i really do like it?
find a friend that has guns and go kill a bird or rodent/pest with it.

or talk your parents into buying a gun for you to go hunting with an adult that they know or they can take you hunting with.

hunting is made of three areas:

hunting for the target (birds, rodents or game animals)

shooting/killing the target with well placed shot(s)

and then disposing of the body (rodents/non-game animals) or field dressing and butchering the animal for human consumption (game animals)
There are several steps u need to take:

1.Contact who ever is in charge of the hunting and fishing up there and find out about hunter safety / education courses.

2.Decide how u are going to hunt

shotgun

archeryblack powderer

i would recommend shotgun 16 or 20 gauge.

3.Since u are under age you will need an adult to get a gun.

4. Practice often before u go in the field.
contact your game warden or Department of Natural Rources or Fish and Wildlife Division, or whatever your state calls it

Ask them if they can send you information on taking a Hunter Safety Class, and also ask them if there are any groups that mentor young hunters.

Or, if you can find a Cabela's or Gander Mountain, go in and ask them.
go with someone and watch them process something and see if you can do it. i tried to get a lot of people in the sport and 95% of them, after watching me gut a deer decided they didnt want to hunt. remember you shoot you clean it
going by yourself isnt' agreat idea see if a friend wants to hunt and be safe and use your head most important
im 13 and i go every other weekend buy a cheap gun and go for squirrels or small game its fun to me
listen to Gary K
You'll need Mom or Dad to approve and support you going hunting. Ask if they can ask around work or with their friends or social groups (church, kiwanis, knitter's club, whatever) if they can find a hunting mentor for you. It will need to be someone they trust you leaving with very early in the day and not coming back until after dark. Hunting alone isn't a good idea for a new young hunter, especially if you're not already familiar with hiking through the woods and keeping from getting lost or hurt.

You'll need to take hunter's ed if you wish to hunt.

The RI fish and wildife dept hunter's ed and hunting regulations site is: http://www.dem.ri.gov/topics/wltopics.ht鈥?/a>

You can check out the online hunter's ed courses at: http://www.hunter-ed.com/ but these don't count in RI--good info to scan while you wait for the actual class.

There may be some outdoorsman or hunting clubs in your area that could also help you find a hunting partner. Being underage you probably shouldn't try to ';advertise'; for one, because you never know what kind of creep you'd meet that way (just can't trust strangers these days). If you're involved in Boy Scouts ask your friends and leaders if they hunt, they may be able to link you up with a reliable hunter too.

Good luck!
you should like hunting if you want to try it. well i was just like you. we're same age actually but i found someone to go with my uncle and cousin. does anyone you and you parents trust (at your school or anywhere) hunt? if so ask their parents if its ok to go with them. since you've never shot a gun or been hunting i suggest you go with someone. but i really dont see a problem with sitting in a tree/deer stand by your self (thats my opinion) after you learn how to shoot. find some youth hunts at yalls DNR website, search RI DNR on google. dont wear any lotion or cologne when hunting or body spray. if you wear hair gel make sure it isnt strong smelling also with your shampoo. be ready to sit for a while sometimes or not even see a deer walk out. you dont have to wear camoflauge. recoil from some guns arent too bad but you dont usually feel it when your shooting in the field. if you target shoot get earplugs all hi-powered rifles are loud and all shotguns are loud. the stronger the rifle the louder and the more kick. if you shoot a deer i'd suggest taking it to a processing place rather than field dressing (processing your self). if you can get a license at 14 in RI you probably need to get one, i dont know yalls rules. walmart should have a free DNR book in the sporting goods section, if you dont see one ask for it. well i hope i helped if your not interested in deer hunting well here's info anyway lol. if you have any questions about any hunting just e-mail me anytime @ arkelj@yahoo.com or message me on AIM or meebo my sn is Arkel23 i like talking about hunting as you can see lol. hope you get to go. im gettin a 7mm mag for Christmas i wouldnt suggest startin off with that though unless you can take some kick.
