Hunting is the practice of pursuing living animals for food, recreation, or trade. In present-day use, the term refers to lawful hunting, as distinguished from poaching, which is the killing, trapping or capture of the hunted species contrary to applicable law. The species which are hunted are referred to as game and are usually mammals and migratory or non-migratory game birds.

Hunting can also involve the elimination of vermin, as a means of pest control to prevent diseases caused by overpopulation. Hunting advocates state that hunting can be a necessary component of modern wildlife management, for example to help maintain a population of healthy animals within an environment's ecological carrying capacity when natural checks such as predators are absent. However, a 2006 study by Penn State's Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics indicated that reducing the game animal population in small areas may lead to higher tick densities, resulting in more tick-borne infections in rodents leading to a high prevalence of tick-borne encephalitis and creating a tick hot-spot. In the United States, wildlife managers are frequently part of hunting regulatory and licensing bodies, where they help to set rules on the number, manner and conditions in which game may be hunted.

The pursuit, capture and release, or capture for food of fish is called fishing, which is not commonly categorized as a form of hunting. Trapping is also usually considered a separate activity. Neither is it considered hunting to pursue animals without intent to kill them, as in wildlife photography or birdwatching. The practice of hunting for plants or mushrooms is a colloquial term for foraging or gathering.
I am not a hunter and couldn't kill a deer or anything like it. However ,hunting has its place, and that is to keep the herds in check. We have killed off all the natural predictors and the deer population is exploding here. There is nothing worse than to see starving deer in the winter due to over population.
hunting is a game thats very addictive . the better you get at it the more you want to be testing you skills out . first i couldnt shoot a cow and now i can hit a matchstick , therefor im always in a need to test my self out , and if you succeed its extremely rewarding . once this big crow or a eagle dont remember used to come and take my baby chickens lol , they were in our backyard and everyday it would happen so when i found out about it i shot the damn thing from faaaaaaaar away . when it feel i knew it was dead because i aimed right at the collarbone , and because of this i got hooked . even today my friends pay 100s of dollars on video games , all i need is a rifle , couple of bullets and ima happy guy
Its about peace and quiet and spending time in nature. Also most hunters love the fact that our money goes to conservation. Hunters donate more money to conservation then peta and green peace combined... funny isn't it haha. And for all those that say it mean, The buck I got monday was missing half his back leg (someone is a horrible shot) so I ended what would have been a long and painful death. We arent all just heartless killers.
Hunting for me means getting together with family and or friends and sharing time together in the woods in pursuit of game. Weather it means deer or small game. If we bring home meat that is great if we don't than that is OK as well. Quite often I bring more home than game. It is the memories and enjoyment.
part of it is communing with nature. part is time with friends. part is the preparation, the planning, and the practice. part is the chase, the struggle, the prize. part is taking personal responsibility for the meat i consume.
Hunting for me is about ambushing my prey and in my case i enjoy to spearfish. I get great pleasure our hunting down the prized fish and shooting it for the only purpose of eating.
Money for wildlife, forests and parks.
