I want my dog to be a hunting dog how can I make that happen?

The best thing to do is obedience school and he has to be trained not to be gun shy. There is a lot of training that has to go into it.You want him or her to be able to withstand the sound of a gun and to be able to retrieve anything that you have shot too.I hope you have the breed that is a hunting dog for sure. You did not say the breed of dog you have. Some dogs are naturals at hunting instincts-like my weim. I did not know that when I adopted her. There are lots of breeds that hunt-but I guess you should look for a training place. Also,different breeds like different types of hunting-bird, small game, etc.. Well first, find your local shoot and take your dog on a lead and ask if you can spend a few hours there and ask lots of people. You won't be able to shoot if your not paying but you can beat without paying. Message me for more info we have gun dogs!

A good hunting dog (of any kind) does not happen by accident. The first thing you will want to do is take a trip to your local library and check out every book that they have on training a dog for the kind of hunting you want to do. (Don't forget that a book is an inert object, and nothing is learned without reading)


Also while you are reading, find out if there is a local training/hunting/ field trial club in your aria. Then get together with others that are training their dogs. You will find that training a proficient gun dog all by yourself can be a tough row to hoe.
