As stated by the other answers, BUCK makes some really good knives for the hunter. Wal-mart has good prices on them and I got my sheath knife for about $30 or so.
I am not a fan of the newer style of survival knife with the ';saw blade'; but prefer the clean standard cutting edge. What is a good Hunting/Survival knife to have for under 30.00 bucks?
Buck and Bowie make great survival knives...
gerber also makes great ones.. but I think all of these are going to be over 30.00.
I bought a 7.5 inch survival knife off ebay for like $25.00.. its waterproof, stainless steel blade and handle.. good knife for short money. just check out ebay.
At about $42.00 for a Buck model 119 special is hard to beat for a fixed blade hunter. I have had mine for 15 years and it works great. A buck 110 folder is also a good choice and is less than the fixed blade.
Either knife will take care of whitetail deer. I guess if I had to choose between the two, I would go with the fixed blade for all around use, but that's just me and one possible drawback is, you need a good sheath with a fixed blade whereas a folder can go into your pocket.( that is assuming, in a survival situation, you cant get a new sheath or repair the one you have. You do have the issue of keeping a folder cleaner though so it will operate ok.)
You're going to have to come up wiht more than $30 for a good hunting /survival knife. You can find hunting /survival knives for under $30 but they are pretty much junk and a waste of your money. Go to www.cabelas.com , www.baspro.com or shop some good sporting goods stores. Forget the discount houses. Go to some place that sells quality stuff and check out their prices. Then go back home and save up some more money so you can buy a knife that will do what you want, take and hold an edge, and will last longer than just out to your car in the parking lot. If you go for the cheap knives, you will be disappointed and then will be back to buy a good knife like you should have done in the first place. Buy quality the first time and don't waste your hard earned money on junk.
A couple of manufacturers of good knives are Buck and Cold Steel. There are many more but these are two that will give you the idea of what you should look for in a good knife and what you should expect to spend.
BUCK knives. You might have to pay a little more, but your getting what you pay for. They are very good knives. A Buck 110 Folding Hunter is a great knife.
I don't know the best knife; but I do know that BUDK has really good knives for descent prices. I order stuff through them for my husband and step dad and they seem to like it. just go to there website and order a free catalog. You might even be able to order from online.
