Brand new Mossberg Maverick at Walmart for $160.00... The hunters who have them are very happy they bought them.*I am looking to get a shotgun for deer hunting. What would be a good gun for the money?
I suppose you are limited to a shotgun in your state or else you wouldn't be asking for one. A rifle is a much better choice but it isn't allowed everywhere. Okay, lets assume you are limited to a shotgun and don't want to spend too much money. Buy a Mossburg with a slug barrel. You can't go wrong with a Mossburg and they are very reasonably priced.
I concur with the Remington 870 Express Combo... its the only shotgun I own, well it might be replace with a new one next year.
remington 870 with a rifled barrel
870 express you can change the kind of barrel if you don't want a slug barrel
For some advice on what shotgun to get for the money I would recommend going to your local gunshop and see what they have on the used rack. The gunshop I go to usually has Mossbergs and Remingtons used that are about $100 bucks cheaper than brand new. The dealer would be able to answer your questions and also seeing what shotgun feels best in your hands. I would also add that you should not overlook the Remington 870 its a great pump action shotgun and all the years I shot them I never had problems. Anyway good luck on finding a good deal and have fun shooting.
Remington 870

Mossberg 500

HR single shot

too many to choose from go to a dealer and compare them
Any 12 gauge shotgun by Remington. Benelli is too expensive. Go with remington. If you live where i live (Ohio) then you cant hunt with a rife. Go with a shotgun and dont risk it.
a remington 870
Well, I'm combining a few of the answers, but I agree with a few of them...

I'd go to Walmart and buy myself a Mossberg 12 gauge....can't beat the price, and they are a good gun.
Dont bother with a shotgun, its such a big spread there wont be any fun in it (i presume thats why you are hunting) try using a high cal rifle + scope, much more rewarding and if you are skinning it will cause much less damage to the pelt. if that fails you can always try to get hold of an M60 lol.
